Head of Engineering at Joulia

About the role

Translated into English from Norwegian by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Joulia is growing - and so are our ambitions. We are the Nordics' largest provider of EV charging where people live, with over 70,000 active charging points in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. We are now looking for a Head of Engineering who will take on a central technology leadership role, further develop our platform and build a strong development team in Oslo.

This is a role for someone who combines solid technical understanding with a strategic outlook and the ability to bring people along with them. You like to make decisions, but know that the best solutions are created together with others.

Following the merger of Aneo Mobility and Elaway, we have brought together platforms, expertise and customer portfolios. Now we will further develop and harmonise the technology across markets, while building for continued growth.

About the role

As Head of Engineering you will lead software development at Joulia and become part of the Product & Technology leadership team. You will report to our CPTO and become a key sparring partner in technology and strategic decisions.

You will have broad responsibility for architecture, software engineering, security, integrations and future technology choices. You will work closely with Product, Charging Tech & AI, Data & Insights and Partnerships to develop solutions that work across disciplines and countries.

An important part of the role is building relationships and trust across the organisation. You make complex technical issues understandable, create buy-in for decisions and represent Joulia in dialogue with external partners.

You do not need to code every day, but you must be close enough to the technology to ask the right questions and contribute to good technical choices.

What you will work on:

Setting technical direction and building for growth

Take ownership of key architecture decisions and further develop a secure, robust and scalable platform. Prioritise technology investments that support Joulia's continued growth.

Harmonising solutions across markets

Further develop shared technology and integrations, while meeting necessary local needs.

Leading and building the engineering team

Develop people, gradually strengthen our internal expertise and create a culture characterised by trust, quality and delivery.

Ensuring quality and development capability

Take responsibility for technical quality, security and stability. Further develop ways of working and explore how AI, automation and modern tools can make us better.

Delivering results together with others

Work closely with Product and other parts of the business to balance customer value, technical quality, risk and costs.

Who are we looking for?

There are several routes into this role.

Perhaps you are a Head of Engineering, Engineering Manager or CTO today. Perhaps you have helped build a technology company from an early stage, or had broad responsibility in a growing business.

You may have experience from SaaS, IoT, energy technology or other environments where technology is a central part of the business.

You will likely thrive at Joulia if you:

  • have a solid background in software development, architecture and cloud-based systems

  • have experience leading, developing and building strong technology teams

  • understand integrations, security and what is required to develop scalable solutions

  • combine strategic technology understanding with practical delivery

  • make good decisions, challenge constructively and create momentum

  • build trust, collaborate well and bring people along with you

  • thrive with broad responsibility and are curious about new technology, including AI

Experience from EV charging, energy or OCPP/OCPI is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Why Joulia?

You are joining at an exciting time. We have the experience and scale of two established companies, combined with the opportunities that come with building something new.

You will have a broad technology mandate, real influence and the opportunity to shape both our technology and our development team. You will be close to the decisions and become part of an international environment with skilled colleagues in four European markets.

We value people who take responsibility, challenge us to be better and succeed together.

Drivers first. Raise the bar. Win together.

Does this sound like something you want to be part of? We would love to hear from you.
