About the role

Translated into English from French by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Do you want to actively defend the planet? What if you joined the salaried team of Greenpeace France?

Greenpeace is an independent international organisation, present in 55 countries on every continent and in every ocean. It brings together more than 3 million supporters and more than 36,000 volunteers around the world.

In France, Greenpeace relies on more than 1,000 volunteer activists and 230,000 supporters who give their time, skills, energy and donations to the protection of the environment. In Luxembourg, the organisation has around ten employees, 8,000 donors and 400 volunteers.

Financial independence is essential to its freedom of action. Fundraising therefore plays a strategic role in its capacity to run its campaigns, defend its values and amplify its impact.

As part of a replacement, Greenpeace France is recruiting its Director of Fundraising, who will join the management committee and lead the fundraising strategy for the French and Luxembourg offices, for a period of 3 months.

The post falls within a period of significant transformation for Greenpeace France, marked by organisational, social and collective cohesion challenges. In this context, the person recruited will need to provide a clear direction, support teams through uncertainty and help strengthen trust, cooperation and the quality of collective functioning.

Beyond their expertise in fundraising, we are looking for someone able to combine a drive for results, listening skills and managerial courage, to take and own decisions in a complex environment, and to actively contribute, within the management committee, to the transformation of the organisation.

✨ The role

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and a permanent member of the management committee, you will define the fundraising strategy, lead its implementation and contribute to the strategic direction of Greenpeace France, in close collaboration with the other departments

To do so, you will rely on a deputy director and experienced unit managers, within a structured department of around thirty people

Manage, unite and lead the Fundraising department:

  • Supervise, support and coordinate the activity of the unit managers, supporting their decision-making and encouraging their autonomy

  • Give teams a clear direction, share priorities and create the conditions for effective cooperation

  • Be an accessible manager who is close to the field, attentive to the needs, difficulties and proposals of the teams

  • Provide strategic and methodological support to managers and staff, particularly in complex situations or those requiring trade-offs

  • Coordinate the department's activity, ensure a sound allocation of human and financial resources and guarantee monitoring of objectives

  • Work with the deputy director to organise a smooth way of working, based on complementary roles and trust

  • Support teams through change and uncertainty, prioritising regular, clear and transparent communication

Define and drive the fundraising strategy:

  • Develop and carry a multi-year fundraising strategy for the French and Luxembourg offices, consistent with Greenpeace's overall strategy and international priorities

  • Identify levers for developing, diversifying and retaining resources, taking into account changes in fundraising and donor behaviour

  • Translate strategic direction into clear operational objectives and action plans, with appropriate performance indicators

  • Initiate, supervise and evaluate acquisition and retention programmes aimed at the general public

  • Analyse results, anticipate changes and drive the necessary reorientations

  • Foster innovation, develop practices and encourage experimentation with new fundraising approaches

  • Ensure the sound use of available resources and contribute to the sustainability of the organisation's funding model

Contribute to strategic direction and represent fundraising:

  • Take part in developing Greenpeace France's strategy as a member of the management committee

  • Be a strategic partner to the Executive Direction and the Board of Directors, providing a clear view of fundraising issues, well-founded analyses and concrete recommendations

  • Contribute to collective decisions, defend the department's issues and needs and ensure decisions are properly translated into team activity

  • Represent the France-Luxembourg fundraising team with Greenpeace International and the Greenpeace international network

  • Represent Greenpeace with supporters and/or donors at meetings or events

  • Represent Greenpeace in external bodies dedicated to fundraising: France Générosités, Association Française des Fundraisers…

💻 Working conditions

  • 3-month assignment

  • Prolonged sitting,

  • Oral communication in French and English,

  • Screen-based work,

  • Telephone/video contact

  • A contract of 39 hours per week
