Shift Supervisor | DSL-01

For DSL-01 in Delfzijl we are looking for an experienced Shift Supervisor who will help build the operation from the preparation phase onwards. Someone who thinks along about procedures, the preparation of commissioning and startup, and helps to get operators ready for the moment the installation actually starts running. DSL-01 will become a large-scale production facility for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and by-products.

About the role

As Shift Supervisor you play a key role in the safe, stable and efficient operation of DSL-01. In this role you get a unique combination of project work and operational responsibility. During the current project phase you actively contribute on day shift to the preparation of the plant operation, commissioning and startup. Once DSL-01 is operational, planned from spring 2028, you lead (on shift work) a team of operators and are responsible for the day-to-day management of a complex chemical production installation.

You ensure that production, quality, safety and environmental objectives are achieved and take the lead when deviations, malfunctions or emergencies occur. In doing so you work closely with colleagues from Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and HSES.

What makes this role special is that you do not join an existing organisation, but from the beginning help build the operation, production and way of working.

Your responsibilities

During the project and start-up phase (~1.5 years):

  • You work on day shift

  • You contribute to the commissioning and bringing into operation of DSL-01

  • You develop procedures and work instructions

  • You play an important role in carrying out training programmes and training operators

  • You support the build-up of the operational organisation

  • You ensure a successful preparation for the start of the plant.

In the operational phase (from mid-2028):

  • You lead a team of approximately 8 operators in a 5-shift rotation within a continuous production process.

  • You monitor the safe and efficient production of SAF, propane, butane and naphtha.

  • You monitor process performance via DCS and MES systems, adjust where necessary and ensure that production, quality and yield objectives are achieved.

In addition, you are responsible for complying with safety, environmental and quality standards, you take the lead in incidents and emergencies and you coordinate work between Operations, Maintenance and other involved disciplines. You also play an active role in continuously improving processes and further strengthening the safety culture within the plant.

An important part of your role is developing the operational team. You are responsible for the growth of operators, both technically and in competences such as collaboration, ownership and safety awareness. Through coaching, guidance and clear expectations you ensure a strong team that can operate safely, effectively and with confidence.

Your profile

SkyNRG is a growing organisation in a fast-developing market. That is why we are looking for people who feel comfortable in an environment where not everything is yet fixed and who want to actively contribute to the further building of the organisation.

You take responsibility, think ahead and feel at home in an environment that is constantly in motion.

You recognise yourself in the following:

  • Experience and affinity with Process Engineering, Chemical Technology or a comparable field

  • At least a completed VAPRO C or AOT level 4 qualification

  • At least 10 years of experience within the chemical, petrochemical, refining or comparable process industry

  • Demonstrable operational management experience and proven people development skills

  • Experience with process automation and working with DCS and MES systems

  • Knowledge of process safety, work permit systems and relevant laws and regulations

  • Experience making operational decisions in situations where safety, quality and continuity come together

Welcome additional knowledge and experience:

  • Experience within greenfield projects or large-scale industrial construction and start-up projects

  • Experience with commissioning, startup and operational readiness

  • Knowledge of refining, hydroprocessing or renewable fuel processes

  • Experience with continuous improvement programmes and performance management

About DSL-01

In Delfzijl we are building DSL-01, a SkyNRG factory for renewable fuels. Here we produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from residual streams such as used fats and oils, using HEFA technology. In addition we produce by-products such as butane, propane and naphtha.

DSL-01 will be the first factory in Europe fully focused on SAF and related sustainable by-products. Once the factory is in operation, we will produce 100,000 tonnes of SAF and 35,000 tonnes of by-products annually. This will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% compared with fossil kerosene, measured over the entire chain.

Construction started in 2026 and first production is planned for 2028. The project includes the factory itself, associated pipelines and temporary work sites. You directly contribute to the realisation of a new industrial factory and the decarbonisation of aviation.

We work according to international standards and Dutch laws and regulations to carefully manage the impact on people, nature and the environment. Safety, sustainability and collaboration are central to this.

Why this role?

This role offers an opportunity that few operators and shift supervisors get. You are involved from an early stage in the realisation of a completely new factory and can use your operational expertise to influence commissioning, procedures, training and the eventual way of working.

After start-up you take the step to an operational environment in which you lead a modern production installation and play an important role in setting the standards, culture and performance of the factory.

At the same time you directly contribute to the realisation of one of Europe's first large-scale SAF factories. A unique opportunity to help build a new production organisation and make a tangible contribution to the decarbonisation of aviation.

NB: To build the operational organisation we are ultimately looking for five Shift Supervisors. The first two Supervisors will start during the project and start-up phase of DSL-01. The remaining three positions are expected to be filled in spring, so that the full team is ready for the operational phase. ‌

Apply

Do you want to contribute to the successful realisation of a new factory and see the results of your work in practice? Then this is your chance to contribute to the development of sustainable aviation.

NB: For safety and health reasons, a medical examination forms part of the selection procedure for this role. ‌
