About the role

Translated into English from German by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

Munich or remote within Germany (in the first year 10 office days per quarter in Munich) | Full-time or part-time from 30 hours per week

Help shape the next stage of development at an established tax advisory firm.

At WMS you take on a key role between demanding client work, technical leadership and firm development. You lead a team technically, steer complex mandates and at the same time help shape how modern tax advisory will be organised in future: with clearer responsibilities, digital processes, higher advisory quality and more entrepreneurial thinking.

In this role you are more than an operational manager. You work closely with the management, the People Lead and other technical leads and bring your experience directly into strategic decisions. WMS thereby creates a role with high visibility, genuine responsibility and tangible influence on the development of the firm.

Your role

As Technical Lead you are responsible for the technical quality, organisation and further development of your team.

You …

  • lead and develop around five to six team members technically,
  • take responsibility for demanding mandates, annual financial statements and tax returns,
  • ensure quality, deadlines and reliable client service,
  • steer capacity, priorities and utilisation within the team,
  • support team members as a technical sounding board,
  • develop standards, processes and digital ways of working,
  • contribute ideas on digitalisation, automation and AI,
  • take part in business decisions around mandates, fees and profitability.

Disciplinary leadership lies with the People Lead. This allows you to focus on technical leadership, quality, mandate management and development, without being tied up in classic personnel administration.

Why WMS?

  • A lot of responsibility. Short paths. Direct influence: At WMS you are not just another manager in a long hierarchy. You work closely with the management and the leadership team, bring your technical perspective in directly and visibly shape decisions.
  • Design rather than administration: The firm is consistently developing its leadership, processes and digital ways of working. You do not take over a fully defined role, but actively shape standards, collaboration, quality and digitalisation.
  • Technical leadership with real impact: You lead a team technically, develop team members and combine quality, cost-effectiveness and reliable mandate work. Disciplinary leadership is clearly separated - your focus lies on technical expertise, steering and development.
  • Demanding mandates with entrepreneurial depth: You can expect a varied client portfolio from the Mittelstand, owner-managed families, high-net-worth individuals, healthcare professionals and larger businesses in hospitality and hotels. This includes long-standing Munich traditional companies and complex, seasonal mandates.
  • High visibility and a clear development path: As part of the leadership team you gain insight into central firm topics and develop not only technically but also entrepreneurially and as a leader.

Your tasks

  • Technical guidance and support of an expert team
  • Independent, full-scope management, steering and expansion of your own varied client portfolio
  • Involvement in day-to-day operations with a focus on annual financial statements and tax returns
  • Review and approval of work results and quality assurance
  • Steering utilisation, priorities and capacity within the team
  • Optimisation of processes and development of digital ways of working
  • Point of contact for complex technical questions and escalations
  • Promotion and development of technical skills within the team
  • Involvement in selecting new team members from a technical perspective

What you bring

  • Completed university degree (e.g. business administration, tax law, economics) or qualification as a tax advisor, tax specialist or equivalent qualification
  • Several years of experience in tax advisory, in particular substantial experience in annual financial statements and tax returns
  • Experience in technical guidance of team members is an advantage
  • Structured, independent way of working, confident prioritisation and analytical thinking
  • Interest in digital processes, automation and modern ways of working
  • Communication skills, team orientation and enjoyment of collaboration
  • Strong service orientation and high quality standards

Experience in inheritance and gift tax is a plus. Knowledge of payroll is also welcome but not a requirement. What matters is generalist technical breadth and the ability to steer mandates and team members holistically.
