What is Asobo Studio?
David Dedeine, co-founder and Creative Director of the studio, answers in this video.

In short: Innovation x Immersion x Emotion

For over 20 years, we have been behind 26 games for PC and consoles, including famous franchises, original games and innovative creations.
Today, we work with more than 300 collaborators on Microsoft Flight Simulator, the A Plague Tale franchise and HoloForge, the studio's XR department.

Our goal as a studio is to create exceptional, memorable interactive experiences for our players.
Pursuing this goal is our daily source of inspiration and satisfaction. It pushes us to always do better, to progress and to surpass ourselves: that is what guides us and gives meaning to everything we do here.

Why is joining us in this role a great opportunity?

This is a key position where your artistic, narrative and technical expertise will have a direct impact on the player's emotional experience. You will help shape the cinematic vision of an ambitious project, while working alongside an experienced and passionate team, behind the A Plague Tale franchise.

It is also a rare opportunity to take a central role in building the game's storytelling, collaborating closely with the project's main creative decision-makers.

Your team

Within the Cinematics unit and under the supervision of the Game Director, you will lead a team of 6 Cinematic Artists and work closely with the Game Design, Narrative Design, Writing and Animation teams.

You will be responsible for the vision and quality of the game's cinematic sequences, while supervising the entire cinematic production pipeline, from scene design through to delivery to the animation teams.

Your missions

  • You will define and supervise the artistic and narrative vision of the project's cinematics.
  • You will enrich the visual writing, staging intentions and emotional dynamics of the sequences, working closely with the Game Director, the Lead Writer and the Lead Narrative Designer.
  • You will occasionally direct other narrative content, such as in-game storytelling, contextual dialogue or interactive sequences.
  • You will anticipate and prepare motion capture shoots, including planning and measuring the scenes.
  • You will take part in casting choices, actor briefings and their direction during capture sessions.
  • You will be the main point of contact for the external motion capture studio and ensure the quality of this collaboration.
  • You will ensure the smooth integration of cinematics into the game experience and the quality of transitions between gameplay and narrative.
  • You will work with technical teams to evolve the tools and production pipeline, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • You will support, unite and develop a team of 6 Cinematic Artists, while guaranteeing a high standard of quality in deliverables.
  • You will supervise the entire cinematic production, from storyboards and previsualisations through to MAS and layouts, and track sequences until they are handed over to the animation team.

The fundamentals for success in this role

  • You have solid experience directing cinematics in the video game industry, ideally on productions with a strong narrative dimension.
  • You master the principles of staging, storyboarding, cinematic grammar and previsualisation.
  • You have excellent sensitivity to gameplay, rhythm, cameras and the emotional construction of scenes, and know how to turn a creative intention into a memorable visual experience.
  • You understand the constraints of real-time, 3D engines and modern production pipelines.
  • You master MotionBuilder or have already got to grips with the tool.
  • You master integration into a real-time game engine (Unreal Engine, Unity or a proprietary engine).
  • You have an excellent knowledge of video games, follow market developments and are interested in the narrative and cinematic references that shape the industry.
  • You know how to inspire, support and develop a creative team while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • You master French and English in a professional context (written and spoken).

The little extras to help you feel even more at ease

  • You have already worked on the production of an action/adventure narrative game
