Role Overview
We are seeking experienced Confluent Kafka Migration Engineers to support a large-scale migration from an on-premises Confluent Platform environment to Confluent Cloud.
The project involves migrating existing Kafka infrastructure, modernising security and connectivity, establishing cloud-based configurations, and ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption to business operations.
We are hiring across two experience levels:
- Mid-level Engineers: 9+ years of experience
- Senior Engineers: 12–13+ years of experience
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the migration of on-premises Confluent Platform environments to Confluent Cloud.
- Assess existing Kafka clusters, topics, configurations, integrations and dependencies.
- Implement and manage Cluster Linking for data replication and migration.
- Configure secure private connectivity between on-premises environments and Confluent Cloud.
- Support Kerberos security modernisation and authentication changes.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support migration and deployment activities.
- Plan and execute migration cutovers, including validation and rollback planning.
- Troubleshoot Kafka, connectivity, replication and performance issues throughout the migration.
- Provide post-migration hypercare to ensure platform stability and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, application and platform teams to deliver the migration successfully.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform.
- Practical experience with Confluent Cloud migrations.
- Experience with Cluster Linking and Kafka data replication.
- Knowledge of secure private connectivity and networking.
- Experience with Kerberos authentication and security modernisation.
- Infrastructure-as-code experience using Terraform.
- CI/CD pipeline implementation and management.
- Experience planning and executing migration cutovers.
- Post-migration support, troubleshooting and hypercare experience.
- Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience with large-scale enterprise Kafka environments.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and platform modernisation.
- Experience with Kafka security, monitoring, performance optimisation and operational support.
- Experience automating infrastructure and deployment workflows.
- Previous experience delivering complex migrations in telecommunications or similarly large enterprise environments.
