About the role

Translated into English from French by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.

What is Asobo Studio?
David Dedeine, co-founder and Creative Director of the studio, answers the question in this video.

In short: Innovation x Immersion x Emotion

For more than 20 years, we have been behind 26 games for PC and consoles, including famous franchises, original games and innovative creations.
Today, we work with more than 300 collaborators on Microsoft Flight Simulator, the A Plague Tale franchise and HoloForge, the studio's XR department.

As a studio, our goal is to create exceptional, memorable interactive experiences for our players.
Pursuing this goal is a daily source of inspiration and satisfaction. It pushes us to always do better, to progress and to surpass ourselves: that is what guides us and gives meaning to everything we do here.

Why joining us in this role is a great opportunity?

As Senior VFX Artist, you will play a central role in defining the visual identity of the project.
You will have real freedom to explore, experiment and propose new approaches, while working closely with the Tech Art and Engine teams to push the possibilities offered by our proprietary engine and our tools.
This is a role where your artistic and technical expertise will have a concrete impact on the play experience, and where you will be encouraged to keep developing your skills alongside an experienced and ambitious team that previously created "A Plague Tale: Innocence", "A Plague Tale: Requiem" and, soon, "Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy".

Your team

Within the Art team, under the supervision of Pierre, Lead Technical Artist, and Olivier, Art Director, you will work alongside 2 VFX Artists and 2 Technical Artists. You will collaborate closely with various disciplines depending on the needs and stages of the project.

Your missions

    • Carry out visual research: imagine and/or improve, prototype and experiment with innovative FX
    • Design solutions that reconcile artistic ambitions with technical constraints
    • Work in close collaboration with Technical Artists and Engine Programmers to find solutions and develop tools, workflows and technologies for FX
    • Integrate and optimise FX in the game levels

The fundamentals for success in this role

    • You have at least 8 years of experience in this position, gained within one or more 3D video game productions
    • You know how to turn an artistic intention into strong visual proposals through a process of research, experimentation and prototyping
    • You have good knowledge of FX editors and know how to work directly in them to solve technical problems
    • You master a 3D software (3ds Max ideally)
    • You have cross-disciplinary skills that let you move between several tools and technologies, such as C++, Python, C#, scripting languages, shaders, Houdini and EmberGen
    • You are proactive and autonomous in your work
    • You have good teamwork skills and know how to collaborate with different disciplines
    • You understand the constraints of real-time rendering and optimisation techniques on consoles

Your remuneration

The salary for this position is between €48k and €54k, depending on your experience. It includes your fixed annual salary for 35 hours per week over 12 months and annual bonuses.

In addition, there are many benefits that you can find here.

We will have the opportunity to give you more details on the level of remuneration we could offer you and to answer your questions during your interview with the recruitment team.
