About the role
Translated into English from Spanish by Korum. The employer's original wording is on their site.
Playlab is a non-profit technology organisation dedicated to helping teachers and students become critical consumers and creators of AI.
We believe that an open-source, community-driven approach is key to harnessing the potential of AI in education. We put AI tools and hands-on training in the hands of educational communities, enabling teachers and students to create their own AI apps for their specific context. More than 40,000 teachers have published apps on Playlab, and the impact grows every day.
At Playlab we believe that AI is a new design material: something that must be shaped by many hands to bring its ideas about learning to life. If you are passionate about building creative and equitable futures for students and teachers, we look forward to having you with us.
Playlab is looking for a person for the position of Learning Partner based in the Basque Country, who will join our Partnerships & Learning team. Spain is our anchor market in continental Europe, where we have the largest community of Spanish-speaking teachers, and this role is the one that shapes it, grows it and keeps it alive.
You will be the face of Playlab to Spanish teachers: you will design and facilitate training in Spanish for schools, school networks, universities, teacher training bodies and partner organisations; you will support teachers as they build their first apps; and you will turn one-off sessions into lasting communities of practice. As Spanish is the bridge, you will also support a small number of exploratory experiences in Latin America: short, virtual pilot cohorts with a partner organisation in one or two countries. In terms of time allocation, the role is 70/20/10: 70% in Spain, 20% on the Latin American pilots and 10% on support and tutoring hours for Spanish-speaking teachers in the United States.
You will also bring back to the team what you see on the ground, and with it you will help shape how we localise the platform, our training materials and our partnership model for Spanish-speaking teachers.
You will report to Playlab's Europe's Learning Partner. Playlab is a team based in the United States, so we ask you to reserve two evenings a week (Spanish time) to work live with the team in the US: much of our joint thinking happens there. You organise the rest of the week yourself. Most of the work is remote, but you must expect to travel within Spain whenever a school or partner organisation needs in-person training.
Design and deliver training in Basque and Spanish: training in schools, teacher cohorts, webinars and support that develop both AI literacy and the ability to create apps with Playlab.
Grow and sustain the teacher community in Spain: turn those who take part in training into active creators, bring case studies to light and keep the community alive between sessions.
Lead the implementation of Playlab in Spanish schools and school networks, supporting school leadership teams from the first pilot through to adoption at scale.
Support and co-design with teachers, helping them create AI tools and learning experiences aligned with their curriculum, their pedagogy and their context.
Work with our key partner organisations in Spain to co-organise training, campaigns and showcase moments.
Collect and share what we learn: case studies, sample apps and localised resources that other Spanish-speaking partner organisations can reuse.
Maintain a living map of opportunities at congresses and events in Spain, and in Latin America where appropriate (AI and education, edtech and educational innovation), following call-for-papers deadlines and deciding where Playlab should give a talk, have a stand or simply be present.
Launch the exploratory pilots in Latin America: co-organise and co-facilitate short, virtual training series in Spanish with Latin American organisations, and report on what works.
Support Spanish-speaking teachers in the United States: tutoring and support hours in Spanish for teachers in American schools.
Contribute to Playlab's commercial growth strategy across the different regions, bringing what works in Spain and Latin America to how we grow elsewhere.
Bring back to the Playlab team what you learn on the ground to improve training resources, platform features and partnership strategy.
You live in Spain, are a native or near-native speaker of Basque and Spanish, have professional working English, and can travel around Spain when training needs to be in person. (Essential)
You have first-hand, up-to-date knowledge of the Spanish education landscape - schools, school networks, teacher training bodies, non-profit educational organisations - and have relationships you can activate. (Essential)
You have taught, led or supported work in schools, and you genuinely care about equity, innovation and teacher autonomy. (Essential)
You are an exceptional facilitator, capable of holding a room - or a Zoom with 50 teachers - and having people leave with something they have built themselves.
You are passionate about helping teachers and students not only to use AI, but to understand it, question it and create with it.
You can commit to two evenings a week (Spanish time) to meet the US team live, and work autonomously the rest of the week. (Essential)
You are confident with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or other LLM-based applications, can explain them and understand how to align them with pedagogical criteria.
You have a network across autonomous communities, universities or teacher training centres (CRIF, CEFIRE, Berritzegune and equivalents).
You have experience working with educational organisations in Latin America.
You speak Catalan, Basque, Galician, Portuguese or another European language.
You know the GDPR and what is expected regarding data protection in Spanish schools.
You have led educational technology or teacher training initiatives at large scale.
You know Playlab or similar AI literacy platforms.
You have supported AI initiatives aimed at both students and adults.
Flexible working: a remote role with real autonomy over your own calendar, beyond the two evenings a week we reserve for the US team.
Real impact: being the person who brings AI literacy into Spanish classrooms, and who helps the model reach Latin America.
Creative leadership: shaping a market that is still being defined, with real decision-making power over how we train and grow.
A purpose-driven team: joining a small group committed to equity, creativity and learning with joy.
Competitive pay and conditions: annual fees of $65,000 to $70,000 - Playlab is an American organisation and benchmarks its bands in dollars - and opportunities for professional development. The collaboration is formalised as a full-time services contract: the selected person must be registered as self-employed in Spain and issue a monthly invoice to Playlab. The amount stated is the total to be invoiced, from which the person bears their own Social Security contributions, income tax (IRPF) and other expenses arising from their activity.
