Senior Ceph Storage Engineer

Main responsibilities

Ceph operations & administration

• Administer and maintain Ceph storage infrastructures in production.

• Ensure operational maintenance and availability of the clusters.

• Monitor the capacity, performance and health of the clusters.

• Analyse and resolve storage-related incidents.

• Handle issues related to OSD, MON, MGR, pools, PG and CRUSH.

• Manage recovery, rebalancing and optimisation operations for the clusters.

• Take part in Ceph evolution, maintenance and upgrade operations.

• Anticipate capacity requirements and contribute to improving performance.

Cloud & Kubernetes integration

• Ensure the integration of Ceph with OpenStack and Kubernetes platforms.

• Work on persistent storage mechanisms and CSI interfaces.

• Take part in operating Rook-Ceph / Kubernetes solutions.

• Handle issues related to object storage and S3 environments.

• Contribute to improving integration between the different components of the Cloud platform.

Production & incident management

• Handle level 2/3 incidents.

• Carry out technical diagnostics and root cause analyses.

• Take part in on-call duties and production support arrangements.

• Meet service commitments and operating procedures.

• Take part in changes and maintenance operations in line with ITIL processes.

• Document incidents, procedures and solutions implemented.

Automation & continuous improvement

• Automate administration and operational tasks.

• Develop and maintain Ansible / Bash / Python scripts and playbooks.

• Contribute to improving monitoring and observability.

• Take part in standardising procedures and industrialising operations.

• Propose and implement improvements that strengthen the reliability, performance and security of the platform.

• ITIL You have significant experience in Linux infrastructure and storage, with proven expertise in Ceph in a production environment.

  In particular, you master:

  • Ceph administration and troubleshooting.

  • The MON, MGR, OSD, RGW components.

  • CRUSH, pools, PG and recovery/rebalancing mechanisms.

  • Integration of Ceph with OpenStack.

  • Kubernetes environments and ideally Rook-Ceph.

  • Object storage / S3 issues.

  • Linux and system diagnostic tools.

  • Monitoring and performance analysis.

  • Automation with Ansible and/or scripting.

  Experience in a Cloud, Managed Services or mission-critical production environment is highly valued.

  Knowledge of ITIL processes, incident, change and SLA management is expected.

  Higher education in computing, systems, networks or infrastructure is desired.
