Coordinating Construction Manager - Groundworks

We are looking for a coordinating construction manager for groundworks for the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and the Norrbotniabanan project.

This is a consultancy assignment. Base location is Skellefteå.

The position is full-time and requires physical presence at the Trafikverket office five days a week.

The assignment involves close collaboration with the client, which places great demands on flexibility and ability to cooperate.

The assignment

The assignment concerns a coordinating construction manager for groundworks for Trafikverket's Norrbotniabanan programme, Production Unit Central Skellefteå.

The Norrbotniabanan comprises approximately 27 Swedish mil (about 270 km) of new single-track railway between Umeå and Luleå.

The role involves coordinating land matters and construction management and taking part in planning the production phase. The consultant works as additional resource in Trafikverket's project organisation in close collaboration with project managers, other construction managers and contractors.

The work includes technical, schedule-related and financial coordination, review of construction documents and planning of sulphide soil and other earth-mass handling. The assignment also includes coordination between different technical disciplines and adjacent contracts.

As coordinating construction manager you will help ensure that contracts are carried out in accordance with contracts, drawings and other documents, and support the project management with decision material and follow-up.

Tasks

Coordinate construction management within Production Unit Central Skellefteå and drive common issues and working methods.

Review construction documents and act as technical expert for groundworks and civil construction contracts.

Plan and coordinate sulphide soil and other earth-mass handling as well as land matters between technical disciplines and adjacent contracts.

Identify and coordinate interfaces and take part in establishing and following up schedules.

Support project managers in contractor procurement, negotiations and development of contracting strategies.

Follow up that contracts are carried out in accordance with contracts, drawings and other documents, and take part in quality, environmental and work environment work.

Identify problem areas, propose measures and lead relevant coordination meetings.

Requirements (IMPORTANT, mandatory)

At least 7 years' experience as site manager, works supervisor, project manager, project leader or equivalent (not construction manager) for assignments concerning civil construction contracts within roads and/or railways. At least 30% employment rate per year of experience.

At least 3 years' experience as construction manager of assignments concerning civil construction contracts within roads and/or railways where coordination between several disciplines was required, e.g. groundworks, structures, roads and others. At least 30% employment rate per year of experience.

Documented experience of AMA Anläggning and AMA MER 17 or later edition, alternatively experience which the client considers equivalent.

Documented training in General Terms (AB04), alternatively experience which the client considers equivalent.

Swedish driving licence category B.

Fluent Swedish, spoken and written.

Other conditions: The consultant must provide their own car for the assignment.

Desirable 

Many years' experience as construction manager or equivalent in groundworks on larger road and railway projects in a client role, with complex earth-mass handling within and between projects. The experience should cover mass balance, logistics and transport, environmental aspects, production coordination and economy.

Experience of handling sulphide soil within road and railway projects, including technical solutions, environmental requirements, logistics and cost-effective handling methods.

Understanding of the role and ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of the assignment.
